Schenectady County giving out free tree saplings ahead of Arbor Day
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Arbor Day is on Friday. Schenectady County leaders are giving people a chance to contribute to local reforestation efforts.
The county is handing out tree saplings at all nine of their library branches this week. Three species of trees are being distributed: Eastern redbud, White Flowering Dogwood, and Serviceberry.
The saplings come with a planting guide and are about six to 18 inches tall. The trees will reach heights of up to 25 feet.
