I DIYed my own deodorant – my $13 buy makes all the difference, it exfoliates and removes bacteria so I don’t smell
A FAN of all things beauty has revealed her method to minimize odor without a bunch of additives.
She makes her own deodorant using a popular skincare buy that doesn’t break the bank but leaves her armpits smooth and stench-free.
Viktoriia Rusanova (@be_viky) prioritizes her wellness and that starts with clean ingredients in her products.
Instead of store-bought deodorants, she prefers creating her own.
Viky explained in a subtitle that she stopped wearing deodorant and advised viewers to do the same in an Instagram Reel.
She showed how she created her own with two products.
As an alternative, she applied The Ordinary’s Glycolic Acid 7% Exfoliating Toner, $13, with a roll-on deodorant bottle.
In the video, all she did was pop the toner open and pour it into the other bottle.
Next, she rubbed it under her armpits with a huge smile on her face.
It was that easy to do and others can too.
What it does is it exfoliates your armpits so there is no bacteria.
By removing the bacteria with the exfoliating toner, it eliminates any smells caused by it.
According to Dr. Joshua Zeichner, there are additional benefits, like being helpful for sensitive skin.
Deodorants may also contain fragrances or acids that help fight odor but can be irritating to the skin, he explained.
“Wow brilliant. Where can I get that roller bottle,” a viewer asked.
Four pieces of Clear Refillable Glass Roll-On Deodorant Bottles, can be purchased on Amazon for $12.99.
Viewers were impressed by how easy it was and some were already doing it.
“I’ve been wanting to try this glycolic acid. Such a good hack!!!!” one commented.
“Omg, the roller is so smart!! I just pat some on my underarms usually,” another said.
“Oh my. I’ve just been applying this from a cotton ball, but this is so smart! Gonna try!” a woman admitted.
Mom of three Cayley also uses the hygenic trick.
Her method is a little different because she pours it into a spray bottle.
Anti-aging tips and 'superstar' products
Dr. Anatalia Moore is a GP and skin specialist with over 11 years of clinical experience.
She told The U.S. Sun that her goal is to equip patients with the knowledge they need to take control of their skin journey.
She said the fundamental basics of a beauty routine are the same for all ages — it should include an effective cleanser, moisturizer, and SPF.
“Moisturizers are my superstar, even over products containing active ingredients,” she said.
“Finding a well-balanced moisturizer that provides the right kind of hydration, replaces natural oils, and seals them in, literally stabilizes your skin.
“This in itself quickly can soften the appearance of fine lines and texture, as often these are worsened by dehydration.
“It also allows the skin the function as it should.
“It then can heal faster, which amongst many things can lead to fewer lines and wrinkles, less flares of dermatitis and rosacea, and shorter-lived, milder breakouts.”
Dr. Moore’s skincare staples:
- Obagi Hydrate and Hydrate Lux moisturizer, $78
- Adequate sleep
- Balanced diet
- Reducing stress
Many people are on the anti-deodorant wave and have their own remedies to combat any strong scents coming from their armpits.
TikTok Sarah went the all-natural route and makes her own DIY non-toxic body wax with beeswax, cacao butter, kokum butter, and coconut oil.
