KNOWLEDGE SHARING: PRIMARY HEALTH CARE BOARD HOSTS TARABA STATE DELEGATES
The Lagos State Primary Health Care Board (LSPHCB) has hosted a delegation from the Taraba State Government who are keen on emulating the successful model of the Lagos State Primary Health Care Board for delivering primary healthcare and Non-Communicable Disease Control, especially HIV/AIDS services to its large population.
Dr. Abimbola Bowale, Supervising Permanent Secretary for the PHCB, while welcoming the delegation, highlighted Lagos’ extensive network of 327 functional primary healthcare centres, with plans for further expansion.
Bowale said: “Our robust network ensures we cater to the health needs of people at the grassroots level. Furthermore, to effectively cover the entire state, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration has created six health districts, bringing governance and quality healthcare delivery closer to the residents”.
Dr. Temitope Balogun, Director of Planning, Research and Statistics (LSPHCB), emphasised the collaborative management structure where each level plays a crucial role in fostering a sense of shared responsibility among all stakeholders in HIV/AIDS management.
The Taraba State delegation was particularly interested in learning about the PHCB’s approach to managing human resources, including staff training and development for non-communicable disease control, strategies for ensuring programme sustainability as well as the integration of services like HIV control into primary healthcare delivery.
The visit also focused on understanding the LSPHCB’s governance structure, led by a Permanent Secretary, overseeing administration, legal matters, NCD control, human resources, staff training, and programme sustainability.
