I thrifted a glitzy ring for only $16 – a jeweler told me how much it was really worth, I feel like I won the lottery
A THRILLED thrifter has hit the jackpot with a glitzy ring for $16.
But a jeweler told her this pre-loved bobby dazzler was worth much more.
A thrift shopper has hit the jackpot[/caption]She could not believe her luck and said it felt like winning the lottery.
She shared her joy in a post on Reddit and commenters were stunned at her find.
“My thrift store find. Emerald and diamond 18-carat gold ring for $16,” she said.
She could so easily have missed this glittering find because it was far too small for her.
“I saw it as we were checking out and thought it was so pretty,” she said.
“I tried it on and it didn’t fit me or my daughter. I honestly didn’t know if this was real or not.”
She left the thrift store but she couldn’t forget about the ring and decided to return.
Fortunately, it had not been snapped up by anyone else and she bought it.
“I thought it was the most beautiful ring I have ever seen. I was bummed it didn’t fit, but figured it was only $16,” she wrote.
But was far too small for her and she took it to a jeweler to enlarge the band, and she was in for a surprise.
“The jeweler looked at it and said it was 18-carat gold and a good quality emerald.
“I was so excited. He thought it was worth around $2k. I guess it has to do with the quality of the emerald being so clear.
“I feel so lucky. I get excited when I find nice kitchen stuff, but this is the cherry on top,” she said.
Commenters were happy for her.
“I’m literally drooling over this. It’s so gorgeous. Congrats on this amazing find,” said one person.
“Wow that’s amazing. You scored big, I’m happy for you,” said a second person.
“That is one of the most beautiful emeralds I’ve ever seen. And an unbelievable setting,” added a third person.
“This is a stunning ring, congratulations on your good karma,” wrote a fourth person.

A style guru had similar success with a beautiful pair of earrings.
She forked out $20 for the jewelry item made in 1875 and discovered they could be worth over $4,000.
