North Korea holds first-ever ‘nuclear trigger’ drills
North Korea’s state news agency announced on Tuesday, April 23rd, that the country had conducted its first-ever anti-ballistic missile exercise to simulate the nuclear management system known as the “nuclear football,” led by North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
The North Korean state news agency has deemed the conduct of this exercise as a clear warning to the “enemies” of the country.
Meanwhile, South Korea’s military stated that North Korea fired several short-range ballistic missiles towards the sea off its eastern coast on Monday.
According to North Korea’s state news agency, the country’s artillery forces participated in a demonstration of their diverse nuclear capabilities on Monday, as part of a nationwide nuclear management system exercise called the “nuclear football,” protesting against “provocative and invasive” military exercises by the US and South Korea.
Reportedly, Kim Jong-un supervised simulation exercises involving maneuvering forces in nuclear counterattack positions and launching artillery with dummy nuclear warheads in the event of a nuclear crisis alert.
State media claimed that Kim praised the readiness of the “world’s best tactical nuclear weapons” and expressed satisfaction with these exercises.
It is believed that North Korea is preparing to launch another spy satellite after successfully placing one in Earth’s orbit in November.
Last week, North Korea announced it had tested a strategic cruise missile, a large submarine-launched ballistic missile, and a new anti-aircraft missile.
