Inside Prince Louis’ 6th birthday – including Kate’s ‘unusual’ cake & the gift EVERY boy wants
THE cheekiest member of the royal family, Prince Louis, is celebrating his sixth birthday today and his parents and siblings will be pulling out the stops for the special occasion.
According to former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond, the young royal will be treated to a cake by mum Kate Middleton and he could have a rather unusual birthday menu.

Kate’s ‘unusual’ cake
Jennie told Fabulous: “Sadly for Louis, the school term will have begun and he will spend his birthday in the classroom at Lambrook.
“But I’ve no doubt his mum and dad will celebrate with him after school and there will be cake!
“William and Catherine are doing all they can to keep things as normal as possible during her treatment, so I’m sure the cake tins will be clattering as usual as Catherine tackles yet another birthday treat.
“She loves to cook and to make a personalised cake for each of her children.”
Kate, who is also mum to Prince George, 10, and Princess Charlotte, eight, is currently recovering from her abdominal surgery in January and announced in March the doctors had found cancer.
Jennie added: “Perhaps this year she won’t stay up till midnight as she has in the past, perfecting the decoration!
“Louis has some unusual tastes for a wee boy – Catherine told Mary Berry that he loves beetroot.
“So, unless his tastes have changed, perhaps that will be part of the menu.”
A chocolate beetroot cake could be the perfect treat for the birthday boy.
Presents for a prince
But what do you buy a prince whose grandfather is king?
Jennie continued: “He also loves tractors, like most little boys, so maybe a battery powered junior tractor will be one of his gifts.
“With Catherine undergoing her chemotherapy, it may be that a big party will be tricky this year.
“But I’m sure they will arrange some sort of birthday treat for Louis, perhaps a picnic in the grounds of their Windsor home with some toasted marshmallows and outdoor games.”
Birthday photo
Princess of Wales, who is talented at photographer, often takes a heartwarming snap of her children on their birthdays and releases it online.
However, the royal expert theorised that we may not get a new photo of Prince Louis after Kate admitted to editing her Mother’s Day picture, following the image being pulled from several photo agencies.
Jennie added: “I wouldn’t blame them in the least for not releasing a picture at all after the storm in a teacup made after the Mother’s Day photo.
Why did William and Kate call their son Prince Louis?
As with most royal names, Prince Louis' one comes with a poignant meaning.
The name Louis – which originates from France and Germany – means “famous warrior’ or “famous in battle”.
Louis is one of his father Prince William‘s own middle names and was chosen by his father King Charles as tribute to his late mentor, Lord Louis Mountbatten.
The Earl was murdered in 1979 by an IRA bomb which was planted on his fishing boat during an outing with his family in County Sligo, Ireland.
Louis’ first middle name is Arthur and it comes from a long line of tradition.
Both his dad William and grandfather Charles have it as their middle name.
Louis has Charles as his second middle name, which is after King Charles.
“They have no obligation to make a six year old pose for a picture, especially now.
“So it will be interesting to see if Catherine faces down her critics and takes a picture herself or gets in a professional – or does nothing!
“I feel very strongly that at this sensitive time in all their lives they should be allowed to do whatever they feel is best for their young family.”
Kate gave birth to Prince Louis at the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in London on April 23, 2018.
Louis is fourth in the line to the throne and regularly delights fans with his enthusiastic personality and sweet moments.
Who can forget the royal stealing the show at the Jubilee and him covering his ears at Trooping the Colour at the flyover?
He was introduced to the world as Louis Arthur Charles and was the great-grandchild of the late Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh.
