I’m a gardening pro – four super ways to ‘blast away’ moss from your patio – including the method that’s totally FREE
THE unpredictable British weather has seen heavy rainfall in the last few months, causing havoc to people’s patios and gardens.
But with warmer weather on the horizon, now could just be your chance to spruce up your outdoor space and get rid of any green algae or moss that’s found a home on your paving slabs.
Gregory Smith has revealed four ways to get rid off moss on your patio[/caption] The property whizz recommends using boiling water to get rid of moss and weeds[/caption]And for anyone who doesn’t want to spend hours tackling the problem, then you’re in luck…because gardening and property expert Gregory Smith at PriceYourJob.co.uk has revealed the four best ways to remove driveway moss.
Amongst the cheap and cheerful methods include those that are totally free, involve cheap products in your kitchen cupboards, and bargain buys from the likes of Amazon.
Baking soda
First up, Gregory advises checking the weather and notes that if it’s predicted to be dry, then baking soda could be your go-to solution.
Costing just 42p from your local supermarket, the expert advises: “Sprinkle the baking soda over the mossy area and leave it to do its thing overnight. Then, sweep everything away the next day.”
He points out that once the moss has turned brown in colour, it’ll be easier to come away from your patio slabs.
So, how exactly does it work? Well, the high pH level of the powder helps to increase the pH of the soil to such levels that are inhabitable to moss.
And Greogry isn’t the only gardening whizz to advocate the use of the popular baking product in your garden.
Experts at CrabGrassLawn.com have also praised it for being the easiest and most efficient way of getting rid of moss.
“Since it’s completely natural, it won’t hurt the environment or your garden plants, soil, or water,” they previously told The Express.
Pressure washer
While many people assume that buying a pressure washer can be expensive, you can actually snap them up for a reasonable £15 from the likes of Amazon.
Gregory explains how they simply need to be directed at affected areas, and the high pressure water will then blast the moss away.
He added: “This is a great way to blast away all of the moss and clean your paving.”
However, the property expert warns not to use too strong a pressure because it could cause permanent damage to the paving slabs.
Boiling water
Alternatively, if you’re looking for a totally free way to get rid of moss, then look no further than your kettle.
That’s because Gregory suggests that you can diminish it in an instant by pouring boiling water on the targeted area.

He then advises scrubbing with a firm brush, and, once loosened, washing it away with a hose.
The gardening whizz adds that boiling water is also useful for getting rid of driveway weeds because the heat helps to collapse the plant’s cell structure, getting rid of it for good.
However, Gregory does point out that some stubborn weeds may require more than one dose of boiling water, and warns not to use it near other plants.
Vinegar and water
And last but not least, the gardening whizz recommends another product you’ll likely already have in your kitchen cupboards…vinegar.
He recommends creating a mixture using one part white vinegar, which costs as little as 60p from Tesco, and one part water in a spray bottle, which can then easily be applied to the affected area
After leaving it to soak in and work its magic, Gregory then advises scrubbing it with a stiff brush, before washing it off with a hose.
