Whitney viewing stand to open to public
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Excitement is ramping up for the summer meet at the Saratoga Race Course, and the public will soon have a chance to get a bird's eye view of the training from the Whitney Viewing Stand.
The stand opens on Thursday, April 25. It will be open from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Thursdays through Sundays. It's free of charge to attend.
Its opening also coincides with dining reservations opening up for Saratoga's popular clubhouse restaurants. This year, the summer meet is being preceded by the Belmont Racing Festival.
A trainer at the Oklahoma training track said it only adds to the excitement.
"I think it's going to be a lot of work, but I think it's going to be a lot of fun for people," trainer Kerry Metivier said. "Can you imagine if we have a Triple Crown on the line in Saratoga? We have the outside stabling, great water, great air. I mean, it's just horse racing Mecca."
The Belmont Stakes racing festival is slated for June 6 through June 9. The annual 40-day meet will open July 11 an continue through September 2.
