Gamethread: White Sox at Twins
Jonathan Cannon and the South Siders look to take the series opener in Minnesota
The White Sox (3-18) are in Minnesota to face the Twins (7-13), and this will be the opener of a four-game series.
Jonathan Cannon, 23, will start on the mound for the South Siders. Cannon is a right-handed pitcher who made a successful MLB debut on Wednesday against the Royals (13-9). During that game, Cannon pitched five innings and only allowed one run. In addition, that run arguably should have been unearned, as center fielder Dominic Fletcher slipped before failing to catch a fly ball that would have normally been caught. Cannon struck out three while only issuing one walk. Overall, he put the White Sox in a great position to win that game, but ultimately, Kansas City prevailed, 4-2.
The White Sox offense will face Chris Paddack, 28, another right-handed pitcher. Paddack is off to a slow start this season, as he enters this game with a 8.36 ERA and a 6.92 FIP in 14 innings. Paddack has had trouble staying healthy, as the last time he pitched more than 100 innings in a season was 2021.
The White Sox have hit right-handed pitchers relatively well, which does not mean much. They have a .564 OPS against righties and a .511 OPS against lefties. Not great either way.
