Capital project brings athletic turf to Colonie High
COLONIE, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- Construction of a new athletic turf field commenced on Monday at Colonie Central High School. The turf field serves as the first stage in the district's $120 million capital project.
The state-of-the-art facility was approved by voters in October 2022. The complex will modernize the school's facilities to meet the changing needs of both athletes and community members. Officials from the district, School House Construction, and SEI Designs took to Mike Ambrosio Field for the groundbreaking ceremony.
Some goals of the $120 million capital project include revitalizing the district's aging infrastructure, expanding instruction spaces, and making district-wide safety upgrades. Some benefits are increased playing time, safety, and chances for outdoor activities.
South Colonie Central School District Superintendent David Perry said the capital project is a milestone for the district's next generation of capital improvements. "As we break ground on this field, we symbolize our commitment to providing modernized amenities that cater to the needs of our students and the broader community," he said.
