Hudson Valley Writers Guild to host 2024 Word Fest
TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Hudson Valley Writers Guild will be hosting the 2024 Word Fest this weekend. The two-day, multi-venue event will be held on April 26 and 27.
Word Fest is making its return to the area for the first time since 2019, commemorating National Poetry Month. The festival will kick off on Friday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Tech Valley Center of Gravity, with a night of exhibits and book signings by 14 poets from across the region.
"Most of these poets promote poetry within their communities by teaching and hosting slams, open mics, contests and publications. This event focused on their writing serves as a form of thanks for their leadership," said Hudson Valley Writers Guild board member Rhonda Rosenheck.
The second day of Word Fest will feature the fan-favorite open mic. Interspersed with performances by poets SG, Samira and Sierra DeMulder, the open mic will run from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Sand Lake Arts Center.
"We are so excited to partner with the Sand Lake Arts Center on this, the return of Word fest open mic. They are providing a wonderful space for our local poets, writers, and performers to present their work. We are especially excited for our features, SG, Samira, and Sierra DeMulder. It is going to be an awesome event!" said HVWG Vice President Mary Panza.
The Tech Valley Center of Gravity is located at 30 Third Street in Troy. The Sand Lake Center for the Arts is located at 2880 NY-43 in Averill Park. You can sign up for the open mic online by visiting the event's website.
