I DIYed a candle with leftover fruit scraps – it smells amazing & keeps bugs away, you don’t even need to buy wicks
A WELLNESS duo made their own candle using kitchen scraps that make any room smell amazing.
The fruit contains everything you need to light up your home and even keeps creepy crawlies away.
Emily and Levi Jensen (@emilyxlevi) share recipes and tips for a healthy home with holistic and natural influences.
Fitness trainer Emily and nutrition coach Levi demonstrated in a viral Instagram Reel how they reuse leftovers of a tasty fruit instead of throwing it out.
The married couple took an orange peel and turned it into an eco-friendly decorative candle.
“Did you know you can use the skin of an orange to make a natural citrus candle?” Levi said at the start of the video.
This method isn’t new and has been used for centuries.
“Did you know that Muslims used to do this 8,000 years ago?” a viewer inquired in the comments.
It’s incredibly easy to do with easy-to-follow instructions.
First, you have to take an orange and cut it in half.
Completely remove all the juicy goodness inside, but keep the white stem inside intact.
This part will act as the candle wick.
You can eat it as a snack or scoop it out, but make sure most of the inside of the peel is visible.
Next, pour olive oil into the orange just below the top of the stem.
“When lighting it, make sure the top is coated in oil,” Levi added.
A viewer also suggested swapping it out with coconut oil to “smell more amazing.”
It’s a very patient process, so don’t expect it to work quickly.
It may take a few minutes for the lighter to dry the stem out enough for it to light.
Not only does it “smell amazing,” but it also is non-toxic and “even keeps bugs away.”
It is supposed to burn for hours if left unattended, but some viewers suggested leaving it in a bowl or plate.
“Maybe set it inside a little dish so it doesn’t tip over,” one commented.
Budget interior design tips

“As an adult, I’ve developed asthma and can’t have candles, especially scented candles. This might be okay for me,” an Instagrammer said.
