Wheeler Dealers host Mike Brewer urges petrolheads to pick up Porsche that’s ‘affordable’ alternative to iconic 911
WHEELER Dealers star Mike Brewer has urged petrolheads to pick up a little-known classic Porsche that he says is “more affordable to own and maintain” than a 911.
It’s no secret that the TV star has a particular soft spot for the German brand – with a few models spotted as part of his incredible classic car collection.

According to Iconic Auctioneers, the 912E has the same chassis as the 911 and therefore handles a lot like famous sports car, but with less power and less weight.
Curiously, the 912E was never fitted with a fuel-injection, hence the ‘E’ in the name – which stands for ‘Einspritzung’.
Just over 2,000 models were built in a 14-month period between 1975 and 1976 to fill a gap in the market for an entry-level Porsche between the discontinued 914 and the then yet-to-be-released 924.
Hence, the 912E was produced, solely for the North American market.
In the car’s listing, which reveals Mike’s 912E is available for between £40,000 and £50,000, the Wheeler Dealers host revealed he picked up the motor for a bargain price while filming in North Carolina.
Speaking highly of the motor, Mike said: “Of all the classic and sports cars I own, it’s the only one I keep at home.
“I keep telling people thinking about buying an air-cooled 911 how they really should find time to get behind the wheel of a 912.
“They are more affordable to own and maintain and yet offer all the charm and quality of the more expensive classic 911 – the 912 is nothing short of brilliant.”
Little is known why the car nut is deciding to sell his rare set of wheels, which is up for sale alongside his Porsche SC and a vintage Ford Transit.
Iconic Auctioneers have said: “Mike had no intention of selling the Transit, or either of his two Porsches also in our sale, but a rather exciting (and probably expensive) project is on the horizon, so a bit of space needs to be created.”
In a post on X, Mike’s wife suggested jokingly that he’s having a midlife crisis, to which he replied: “It was either a belly button piercing a tribal tattoo, and I was going to grow a ponytail – that’s one side of the midlife crisis.
“The other one was I’m gonna sell the cars.”
Meanwhile, in a recent exclusive chat with The Sun, Mike revealed three modern classic motors that drivers can pick up right now that could turn a handy profit in the future.
He also picked out his most underrated motors – including a VW supermini that “drives like a sports car.”
