News and Notes: Carrasco Frustrates Red Sox, Guards Win Series
News and Notes for Friday, April 19th, 2024
The Guardians come back to Cleveland at 13-6, having won 3 of 4 in Boston, taking the series finale 5-4.
Manager Stephen Vogt didn't mince words after the game in saying that the team did not play well to begin the game:

By the fourth inning, the Guardians had issued three walks, made two errors (Andres Gimenez and Gabriel Arias), and had a player picked off first bass (Tyler Freeman). Brayan Rocchio also had some fielding issues. Things were off. Yet, somehow, the Guardians were ahead 2-1 entering the fifth.
Then, Ramon Laureano reached on a fielding error, Brayan Rocchio got hit by a pitch and Andres Gimenez singled to score Laureano. Then, David Fry got hit by a pitch and a José Ramirez ground out got a second run of the inning across the plate.
Tyler Freeman's double and much-maligned veteran Laureano drove him home with a base knock. Good thing, too, because Cade Smith entered the game with two outs and a runner on for Carlos Carrasco and promptly gave up three runs. Don't just pump it in there, kids, it doesn't work to leave it in the middle of the plate.
Not to worry, Guardians fans, because Tim Herrin, Hunter Gaddis and Emmanuel Clase shut the Red Sox down with no drama. Props to them and to crafty vet, wiley rightie Carrasco for keeping the Red Sox off the board just enough to win another series (5 of 6 this season so far).
Pedro Avila is now on the Guardians’ roster.

Travis Bazzana is supposed to return to action this weekend after getting hit on the hand. Meanwhile, the Athletic's Keith Law has Georgia's Charlie Condon as his number one prospect.
