CT man indicted for allegedly stealing over 30 guns from Good Guys store
A Willimantic man multiple federal charges after allegedly stealing more than 30 weapons from a Newington gun store in 2023, federal officials said.
A federal grand jury in New Haven returned an indictment on Tuesday charging Kwitzpatrick Duffany, 36, with firearm and drug charges for allegedly stealing more than 30 firearms from Hoffman’s Guns for the Good Guys, a federal firearms licensee located at 2686 Berlin Turnpike in Newington on May 27, 2023, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
“On that date, Duffany also possessed with intent to distribute fentanyl and cocaine, and used a firearm in relation to that offense,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.
The indictment charges Duffany with theft of firearms from a licensee, which carries a maximum term of 10 years in prison; unlawful possession of firearms by a felon, an offense that carries a maximum of 15 years; possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and cocaine with a maximum of 20 years; and use of a firearm during and in relation to a drug trafficking crime, which carries a mandatory sentence of at least five years.
Duffany’s criminal history includes two state convictions for third-degree burglary, making it a violation of federal law to possess a firearm, according to officials.
Duffany has been detained since his arrest on unrelated state charges on May 31, 2023, officials said.
