Police: 17-year-old boy dies a week after CT shooting
A teenager shot in the head last week in Bridgeport has died, police said.
The victim, identified as 17-year-old Bridgeport resident Romain Sterling, died Wednesday from injuries he suffered during a shooting on April 10 on Park Avenue, according to the Bridgeport Police Department.
On April 10, officers received multiple reports of a person being shot in the 1200 block of Park Avenue just before 7 p.m. as well as a ShotSpotter notification in that area before officers found Sterling suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. He was taken to an area hospital and initially listed in critical condition.
“Romain Sterling’s family has been in communication with the Bridgeport Police Department’s Detective Bureau,” Captain Kevin Gilleran said in a statement. “This is a great loss to the City of Bridgeport and it has impacted the officers who work diligently to protect the lives of all citizens in our community. The police department’s thoughts and prayers are with Romain’s family and friends.”
According to Gilleran, detectives who took over the investigation secured a large crime scene on Park Avenue from Laurel Avenue to Wood Avenue. Multiple pieces of evidence were found.
Gilleran said Wednesday that “several strong leads have been developed,” though he said police are “still requesting the community’s help in solving this crime.”
