UK weather: Brits to enjoy ‘warmer’ weekend after temps plunged to -1.9C overnight & flood warnings issued
BRITS are set to enjoy a “warmer” weekend after temperatures plunged to -1.9°C overnight and flood warnings were issued.
The Met Office said there will be more rain on Thursday, however temperatures across the rest of the country will be close to their seasonal averages.
In the south, it is a cold but bright start with plenty of sunshine.
Meanwhile it will be cloudier and breezier across Scotland and parts of Northern Ireland with outbreaks of rain sinking southeastwards into northern England.
By Friday, temperatures across the country are expected to reach the low to mid-teens with slightly warmer conditions in the south.
It comes after the temperature plummeted to -1.9°C in Spadeadam, Cumbria, last night.
The Environment Agency has issued 4 red flood warnings for the country, while there are 57 alerts in place.
Forecasters also said the lighter rain seen across some parts of the UK will slowly move away towards the end of the week making for a “mostly dry” Saturday and Sunday nationwide.
Some much-awaited high-pressure moves in from the Atlantic on Saturday.
It’s a cold start though with the possibility of some frost, especially in the north.
Light winds and sunshine will make the day feel pleasant with temperatures hitting the mid-teens.
The southwest is likely to see the most prolonged sunshine, the Met Office said.
There is some cloud and rain expected in the far north of Scotland and Northern Ireland but for most, it’s a fine and dry day.
However, it is set to be cold overnight with a frost most likely in southern areas.
High pressure is still in place on Sunday although showers are possible in some northerly and eastern areas.
It will probably be cloudier overall than Saturday, especially in the north and east but still enjoying some sunny spells too.
That milder air spreads across the UK with temperatures up a touch compared to Saturday.
Deputy chief meteorologist Mark Sidaway said: “Don’t expect a heatwave.
“Temperatures will be close or a little above average but feeling warm in the sunshine and light winds.
“The high will also bring with it a good deal of dry weather for most of the country although some northern and perhaps eastern areas will see a little rain at times.”
While high pressure is likely to stay close to the UK next week it is expected to drift west.
This could allow some cooler weather and showers back into some eastern areas especially.

A dry weekend for most with sunny periods on Saturday, then generally cloudier on Sunday.
Isolated showers on Monday. Winds easing and feeling a bit warmer, though still chilly overnight.
