Autism Action Day 2024 held at NYS Capitol
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Advocates for people with special needs gathered at the New York State Capitol on Wednesday to call for more to be done to help them reach their potential. Autism Action Day highlights the resources that are currently available.
While some progress has been made, advocates said more work needs to be done. NEWS10's Christina Arangio, who has been a longtime advocate, said this year's focus is about expanding access to jobs, housing and higher education.
"And it will lead to less isolation, fewer self-contained settings, more critical job opportunities, and overall, just a better life for people with autism and various developmental disabilities," she said.
The Century Club of Amsterdam, which connects people with volunteer opportunities, was given the New York State Autism Action Award. The organization has hosted numerous events for people with autism and their families.
