Oregon tops list as most retro game-obsessed state in the US
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- Get your Power Gloves and your Virtual Boys ready, because a new study found Oregon is the most retro game-obsessed state.
The study from guidestrats.com, a video game guide publisher, found that Oregon is the most retro-gaming-obsessed state in the U.S.
The study tracked Google searches for 100 retro-gaming-related terms, 200 retro games and 20 retro game consoles to see which states were searching the most -- and Oregon came out on top.
According to the study, there are 2,437 retro gaming topic searches per 100,000 Oregon residents each month on average, which is 51% above the national average with a total of 104,698 searches.
Based on the searches, the study also found Oregonian's favorite retro games. "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City" came in first with an average of 3,276 monthly searches. "Grand Theft Auto" was followed by "Final Fantasy 7," "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time" and "The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask."

But how do Oregonians play their favorite games? The study found that the most popular retro console in Oregon was the PlayStation 2, followed by the PlayStation 1 and the Nintendo Entertainment System.

While Oregon was first place by a wide margin, New York came in second with an average of 1,980 retro gaming topic searches per 100,000 residents each month. Nevada came in third, followed by Washington and California.
