"Technology was never something that I was particularly interested in or would consider myself working in, but I feel inspired by the potential for technology to be the driver for social change," she said.
Once Cole had the idea for Impossible, she started to research the gift economy, finding lots of pre-capitalist examples and also examining Wikipedia, whose founder Jimmy Wales has invested in the business. "The amount of stuff that we do for free for each other is bigger than GDP."
