Florida man extradited to CT to face sexual assault charge
A man apprehended in Florida as a fugitive was extradited to Connecticut on Tuesday to face a sexual assault charge.
Fran Garcia-Pineda, 31, of Miami, Florida, faces one count of third-degree sexual assault, according to the Norwalk Police Department.
Police said the department’s Special Victims Unit last June began investigating a sexual assault complaint and identified Garcia-Pineda as a suspect following a lengthy investigation.
The detective assigned to the case learned he was living in Miami and was able to get an extraditable warrant for his arrest, according to police. The detective worked with a Norwalk officer assigned to the U.S. Marshals Service Violent Fugitive Task Force to help coordinate an apprehension of Garcia-Pineda. He was arrested by the task force on April 4 in Miami, police said.
After being extradited to Connecticut, Garcia-Pineda was being held on a $150,000 bond pending an arraignment hearing Wednesday in Stamford Superior Court.
