Boil Water Order issued for Village of Fredonia
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) -- A Boil Water Order has been issued for all Village of Fredonia and Town of Pomfret water customers until further notice, the Chautauqua County Health Department announced.
Officials said the scheduled cleaning of the water treatment plant tank resulted in water potentially containing harmful microbes entering the distribution system.
All Fredonia water customers must boil water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth and making coffee. Water must be brought to a rolling boil for one minute and then cooled before using. Boiling water kills bacteria and microbes that may be present within it.
Additionally, boiled or bottled water must be used to wash dishes by hand, but home dishwashers that reach a temperature of 170 degrees and have a full dry cycle are safe to use.
Water may be used for bathing as long as it is not consumed and it is safe for laundry.
