Fans called on MLB to get rid of umpire Angel Hernandez after yet another dreadful night behind the plate
It’s unavoidable at this point: Angel Hernandez continues to be a problem for MLB.
The longtime umpire missed much of last season due to injury, but ever since his return behind the plate, he’s put up terrible performances and sent games into disarray.
Tuesday night was no exception.
Hernandez worked behind the plate of the Brewers’ matchup with the Padres. And we saw as he had the Brewers furious over a first-inning balk call.
The ball-strike accuracy wasn’t much better either. According to Ump Scorecards, Hernandez missed 21 calls on the 202 taken pitches in the game for an abysmal 90 percent average.
Out of umpires who have worked at least four games behind the plate this season, just five have performed worse than Hernandez. But again, it isn’t just the ball-strike accuracy that causes issues with Hernandez – he fails to grasp basic aspects of umpiring.
After yet another bad night, MLB fans begged for the league to step in and do something. Enough is enough already.
