South Lamar closed near Barton Springs due to emergency repair
AUSTIN (KXAN) -- South Lamar Boulevard is closed just south of Barton Springs Road Wednesday morning for emergency repairs in the area.
Austin Transportation and Public Works said in a post on X at 7:46 a.m. there was an emergency street closure south of Lamar and Barton Springs and all lanes on Lamar were closed.
Austin Energy's outage map around 8 a.m. showed an outage in the area with the cause listed as "An obstruction to the electrical grid has occurred (e.g., a traffic accident). Restoration time depends on the extent of the damage." The repair time was estimated for 9:49 a.m.
Austin Energy said a car hit a pole early Wednesday morning and crews are making repairs and needed to close the road for safety.
Drivers reported standstill traffic on Lamar in the area around 8 a.m. ATX Transportation and Public Works recommended seeking alternate routes or avoiding the area if possible.
