I tried the all-new McDonald’s frappe based on an iconic biscuit – it was tasty but could have used a key ingredient

MCDONALD’S fans have been blessed with a new menu shakeup today, and among the new items is a never-before-seen drink.

The fast-food chain has partnered once again with Biscoff following the successful debut of the McFlurry last summer.

It’s a special treat for Maccies fans when they get a new frappe to choose from.

The only other drink on the menu is Caramel Iced Frappe, which is a permanent offering.

When McDonald’s first announced it was launching the new beverage, I immediately volunteered to be the one to give it a go.

I’m a fan of the first collab between the brands which came in the form of a McFlurry and took Biscoff fans by storm last summer.

But what would the new frappe taste like and how would it compare to the caramel variation?

The Sun tried the new drink on launch day as it landed in thousands of restaurants across the country.

First things first, if you’re a fan of the popular biscuit, you’re going to like it.

Plus, if you’ve got a sweet tooth, even better.

The frappe has a vanilla flavour base and is blended with ice and Biscoff crumb.

It’s then topped with caramel-flavoured cream and a crumb dusting.

It was really tasty, the combination of vanilla and Biscoff bits really works well together.

I found it tasted like a milkshake but didn’t have the same thick consistency as the classic Maccies shakes.

My only slight hang-up is that it was extremely sweet, tasty, but sweet.

It could have definitely done with a shot of coffee in it, which the caramel version has.

The description for the caramel drink says it has a hint of coffee blended with ice, then topped with cream and caramel sauce.

I think this would have added a nice addition to the Biscoff drink or would be nice to have an option.

Other than that though the frappe did go down a treat and fans of the Belgian biccies will definitely want to give it a go.

The Biscoff Frappe costs £2.99 but you’ll need to be quick because it’s only around for six weeks.

Not only that but as we mentioned the Biscoff McFlurry, which was very popular when it launched last June, is also back.

It costs £1.99 and features a Biscoff crumb swirled onto the soft-serve ice cream.

So all in all it’s a bumper menu for Biscoff fans.

What else is new to the McDonald’s menu?

Coming back for a fourth time is the sell-out Chicken Big Mac which has proven a huge hit with fans since it first debuted in 2022.

It’s a twist on the classic Maccies Big Mac with its triple-layered bun, two chicken patties, a slice of cheese, lettuce, pickles – and of course the Big Mac sauce.

The burger costs £4.69 for a single and £6.49 for a meal.

Elsewhere the new Cheese and Herb melts are made from a blend of Emmental and mozzarella cheese in a herb-infused breadcrumb with a tomato dip.

Cheese lovers can get a pack of five for £2.89 or a sharebox for £7.09.

The Quarter Pounder Deluxe – priced at £4.89 – contains a 100% beef patty with mustard, ketchup, onion, lettuce, mayonnaise, tomato, and pickles.

It’s then topped with two cheese slices and served in a toasted sesame seed-topped bun or make it a double with an extra beef patty.

Or you can get a Quarter Deluxe medium meal for £6.59 including fries and a drink.

After launching as part of the winter menu last year, the Galaxy Caramel Pie is back.

It’s a Galaxy-flavoured caramel sauce encased in a crispy chocolate pastry and costs £1.99.

The treat is accompanied by the Galaxy McFlurry which also costs £1.99.

It is made up of soft dairy ice cream swirled with chocolate drops topped with chocolate sauce.

How do I find my nearest McDonald’s?

If you’re planning on taking a trip to McDonald’s, you’ll want to know where your nearest branch is.

The chain has a restaurant locator tool on its website you can use to find your nearest one – and check what time it opens.

Bear in mind that McDonald’s serves breakfast every day until 11am.

After that, the menu switches to the normal menu serving meals such as burgers, chicken nuggets and more.

How to save money at McDonald’s

You might not think it, but you can end up being charged more solely based on the McDonald’s restaurant you choose.

Research by The Sun found a Big Mac meal can be up to 30p cheaper at restaurants just two miles apart from each other.

Meanwhile, you can pick up a Big Mac and fries for just £2.99 by filling in a feedback survey found on any old McDonald’s receipt.

The receipt should come with a 12-digit code which you can enter into the Food for Thought website alongside your submitted survey.

You’ll then receive a five-digit code which is your voucher for the £2.99 offer.

Make sure you check out all the various apps and platforms if you’re ordering McDonald’s to your home too.

Our research found some can charge up to £1.20 more than others.
