Dele Alli says he had a ‘telepathic’ connection with one former Spurs teammate
Dele Alli says he would automatically know when and where to run as soon as Christian Eriksen picked up the ball during their time together at Tottenham.
Dele was part of a formidable front four for a few years at Tottenham, along with Eriksen, Son Heung-min and Harry Kane.
Those four players had slightly different skill sets but they all possessed a major goal threat, thus striking fear into opposition defences.
The fact that Tottenham also had two combative and skilful midfielders, Mousa Dembele and Victor Wanyama behind them, meant that the four attackers had the freedom to interchange positions and pull the opposition defence out of shape.
Dele Alli and Eriksen had a telepathic combination
While the Kane-Son link-up is understandably talked about a lot, with the pair having combined for more goals in Premier League history than any other duo, the Dele-Eriksen link-up was just as deadly for a few years.
The Everton man explained that he would always make runs to the far post whenever the Dane got the ball, knowing that he had the quality to pick him out.
Dele told Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football: “This is where it started and took off [Spurs win over Chelsea where Dele scored]. Every time he got the ball I would know it was coming in with quality and where to run. It was like telepathic.
“It was my trademark run in behind and I know certain players who would look and play that ball. A lot of the time the ball came with quality.”

Dele’s engine and running power gave him a huge advantage over others as he would constantly make the right runs. His ability to ghost into the far post and get on the end of crosses made him a nightmare to play against and more often than not, he would often get the right sort of connection and get the ball on target.
