Pedestrian struck and killed in HOV lane on I-84 in East Hartford
A pedestrian was struck and killed in the HOV lane of Interstate 84 in East Hartford late Tuesday.
The crash occurred just before 8:30 p.m. on I-84 West, prior to Exit 58, where 28-year-old Randy Casado of Brooklyn, New York was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Connecticut State Police.
Casado was hit by a 2007 Toyota Prius being driven west in the HOV lane by a 73-year-old Hartford man, state police said.
According to state police, Casado suffered injuries “not compatible with life.”
The Prius driver suffered what were suspected to be minor injuries and was taken to Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford. A passenger in the vehicle, a 71-year-old Hartford woman, did not report any injuries, state police said.
The crash remains under investigation.
