My DIY fertilizer works wonders on your garden – don’t throw away your banana peels, try my recipe to help your blooms
FERTILIZING your flower beds doesn’t have to cost you an arm and a leg.
A gardening pro showed her followers the free DIY hack she uses to help her plants flourish.
In her viral video, the Instagram user who goes by Green Garden (@green_garden113) demonstrated the simple trick.
She revealed the kitchen waste item she uses to nourish her potted plants.
“Don’t throw away banana peels,” the green-thumbed woman told her audience.
She explained that using the fruit peel as a flower fertilizer “works wonders.”
For the first step, she cut her banana peel into small pieces and added them to a large cup.
The gardening expert then poured hot water over the peels and left them to ferment for 24 hours.
Once fermentation was complete, she filtered the water with a strainer.
She then added a small splash of distilled white vinegar to the concoction.
“White vinegar can quickly decompose a variety of nutrients in banana peels,” she explained.
Finally, she poured the mixture directly into her potted plants.
She also suggested pouring the solution into a spray bottle and adding it directly to the plant’s leaves.
According to the Instagrammer, this move can help your plant leaves turn green.
Research carried out by Brisbane City Council explained the science behind using banana peels to help your plants.
“Banana peels contain calcium, which promotes root growth and helps add oxygen to your soil,” the experts said.
They also pointed out that the magnesium in the peels can assist with photosynthesis.
