I’m in my 50s but my skin looks better now than in my 20s – the plumpness is thanks to my free water hack
THE way you turn on the tap to wash your face is the secret to maintaining youthful skin, a beauty expert has revealed.
Tina Craig, a make-up CEO in her “early fifties”, claims her skin is “plumper and more cushiony” than it was in her twenties thanks to the water hack.
In fact, the mum-of-one says that her complexion “is the best it’s ever been”.
And it’s all thanks to how she turns on the tap – that is, the temperature she turns it on at.
“As a general rule, I avoid using hot water on my skin – cold or lukewarm water only,” Tina told British Vogue.
“If possible, I always like to try and use filtered water.
“Our skin is an organ that absorbs everything – the water we use to wash it included – meaning that all the calcified deposits around the faucet can end up right on your face.
“I would recommend installing an under-the-sink filter.
“It is fairly inexpensive, and it has the potential to change your skin.”
Cold water has the power to tighten skin more than warmer temperatures can.
As a result, the skincare products you apply afterwards are better absorbed.
Thanks to treating her skin as preciously as the rest of her organs, Tina believes her skin has never been so plump.
Biology may say that, due to collagen loss, your skin is less plump in your fifties – but not for make-up mogul.
“This is because, instead of over-treating my skin the way I used to,” she said.
“I’m now only treating the areas that need it, preventing future damage while correcting past damage.”
One of the main causes of physical signs of ageing is the loss of collagen, which naturally dwindles as we age.
Collagen provides structural support to the skin, contributing to its firmness and elasticity.
As collagen decreases as we age, the skin loses its ability to bounce back into place, leading to sagging and wrinkles.
Collagen depletion results in the formation of wrinkles and fine lines – particularly in areas where the skin is prone to repetitive movements, like the eyes and mouth.
To help beat eye wrinkles, Tina can’t live without eye creams, telling Harper’s Bazaar that she “doesn’t care what brand”.
“I remember being really young, taking off my contact lenses, washing my face and putting on my eye serum,” she said.
“So, I really believe in them because the eye area is so much more fragile [than the rest of your face] and eye creams are specifically formulated for that thinner skin.”
