I’m a plastic surgeon and you’ll never get me to shut up about my holy grail skincare product – follow my instructions
SUNSCREEN isn’t the only holy grail product for healthy skin, according to a plastic surgeon.
He revealed the item everyone should include in their daily beauty routine regardless of skin type or color.
The early signs of aging start to show on the skin in your late 20s, according to the dermatologists at SkinTreatment.com.
These can include sun damage, brown discoloration, and dilated blood vessels.
Living a healthy lifestyle by wearing daily sun protection, not smoking, or tanning, can slow development.
However, these habits achieve the best results when used alongside active skincare.
SKIN SAVIOR
Dr. Prem Tripathi (@drpremtripathi) has garnered over 658,000 followers on TikTok, where he shares beauty advice.
The facial plastic surgeon unexpectedly went viral on TikTok when he raved about his “holy grail” skincare product.
He said there are a lot of “misconceptions” about tretinoin, but it’s safe for people of all races and skin types.
He reassured viewers that it wouldn’t make skin thinner or cause adverse reactions if used before a chemical peel or laser.
He said it can also be used throughout summer but you’ll need to apply extra sunscreen.
Sufferers of acne, hyperpigmentation, or wrinkles should also use it.
However, Dr. Tripathi warned that use should be stopped ahead of an eyebrow wax.
He revealed that 0.25% is the best for introducing tretinoin to the skin.
I agree 100 percent being using it for 8 years and it is life-changing with consistency.
He recommended applying it to dry skin up to three times a week and “buffering” before and after with a moisturizer.
Over time, the percentage and frequency should increase to applying up to six times a week.
TESTIMONIALS
The video racked up over 96,000 likes and thousands of comments from people sharing their experiences with tretinoin.
“I agree 100 percent being using it for 8 years and it is life-changing with consistency,” one person said.
“Yes, I swear by it because it got rid of the dark scars on my face and I didn’t even use sunscreen like that,” another commented.
“I’ve been using tretinoin for a year (started really slow to avoid major dryness) and my skin looks so much better!!” a third chimed in.
“I vouch for this literally the only product that works on my skin and has it beautiful,” another wrote.
Anti-aging tips and 'superstar' products
Dr. Anatalia Moore is a GP and skin specialist with over 11 years of clinical experience.
She told The U.S. Sun that her goal is to equip patients with the knowledge they need to take control of their skin journey.
She said the fundamental basics of a beauty routine are the same for all ages — it should include an effective cleanser, moisturizer, and SPF.
“Moisturizers are my superstar, even over products containing active ingredients,” she said.
“Finding a well-balanced moisturizer that provides the right kind of hydration, replaces natural oils, and seals them in, literally stabilizes your skin.
“This in itself quickly can soften the appearance of fine lines and texture, as often these are worsened by dehydration.
“It also allows the skin the function as it should.
“It then can heal faster, which amongst many things can lead to fewer lines and wrinkles, less flares of dermatitis and rosacea, and shorter-lived, milder breakouts.”
Dr. Moore’s skincare staples:
- Obagi Hydrate and Hydrate Lux moisturizer, $78
- Adequate sleep
- Balanced diet
- Reducing stress
GLOW UP
The prescription-strength topical cream or gel is mostly used for treating fine lines, acne, and sun-damaged skin, according to Healthline.
Tretinoin is a synthetic form of vitamin A sold by countless brands.
It is stronger than retinol and works by irritating the skin therefore it isn’t easily tolerated by sensitive skin.
Experts recommend waiting at least 20 minutes after washing and drying your face to apply it.
Visible results can take up to six weeks to appear and it’s recommended to speak with your doctor if there is no improvement within 12 weeks of consistent use.
