A REAL estate expert with a keen eye for design has revealed clever tricks for maximizing small outdoor spaces.
She said her tips are the result of years of helping clients to find and design their “dream” backyards.
Trying to recreate the atmospheric gardens seen on social media can be overwhelming without a clear strategy.
From expensive decor to furniture that doesn’t fit, time and money can be wasted by not considering how to make the most of the space.

Through her work, she is “constantly” researching the latest materials, fixtures, and plants that homeowners use to create “lush, functional oases.”
She told The U.S. Sun that outdoor living is her “personal passion” and she always has new strategies.
PERFECT PLAN
Olenbush said the first step for revamping any backyard is envisioning how the space will be used.
“Will you be hosting friends for dinner?” she said.
“Lounging with a good book? Planting a vegetable garden?
“Thinking about your needs and lifestyle is important as you make design decisions.
“Once you know how you’ll spend time outside, it’s time to start planning.
“But above all a clear objective has to be set, so think of your whereabouts, the predominant weather, the friends you have, and the activities you’d like to take part in that particular space.”
SITTING PRETTY
The real estate expert said outdoor furniture should be able to serve multiple purposes.
Meanwhile, lighting should be decorative but also practical for using the space at night.
“An ottoman with extra storage or a bench with built-in planters are neat ways to maximize functionality in a small area,” she said.
“Don’t forget about lighting, too – string lights, solar lanterns, and outdoor sconces can beautifully illuminate your space at night.”

“I also suggest considering a water feature like a birdbath – the subtle sounds of trickling water create such a serene environment.

“Once the basics are in place, it’s time for styling.
