Washington Spirit midfielder Andi Sullivan Reaches 100th NWSL Regular Season Appearance
The team captain and former No. 1 overall draft selection logged all 100 appearances with the Spirit
Washington, D.C. (04/15/2023) – Washington Spirit midfielder Andi Sullivan marked her 100th career NWSL regular season appearance during the club’s victory against the Houston Dash last Friday.
Drafted by the Spirit as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 NWSL Draft, the Lorton, Virginia native has become one of the most prominent fixtures in club history during her seven-year tenure. All of Sullivan’s 100 appearances have been with the Spirit, making her the fourth Spirit player to reach 100 appearances with the club, joining Spirit legend Tori Huster and teammates Aubrey Kingsbury and Ashley Hatch. She also ranks fourth in team history with 8,493 regular season minutes.
Sullivan’s impact on the Spirit since being drafted cannot be overstated. She played the full 90 in her first NWSL match and earned a second-place finish in the 2018 Rookie of the Year voting behind Imani Dorsey. In 2021, Sullivan captained the Spirit to the NWSL Championship, scoring the equalizing penalty kick in the championship match. Last year, Sullivan both re-signed with the team on a new three-year contract and represented the USWNT during the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
In her career, Sullivan has started all but three matches for the Spirit,. As a defensive midfielder, she has logged five career regular season goals and assists. This ranks 13th and eighth, respectively in the Spirit’s all-time history.
Prior to her time with the Spirit, Sullivan was regarded as one of the nation’s top collegiate players during her four-year career at Stanford (2014-17). She was named the 2017 MAC Hermann Trophy Award winner, 2017 Pac-12 Midfielder of the Year, and 2017 TopDrawerSoccer Player of the Year. Other accolades include being a MAC Hermann finalist in 2016, three-time First Team All-American (2015-17) and four-time First Team All-Pac-12 member (2014-17). She also earned the 2014 Pac-12 Freshman of the Year and was the 2014 consensus National Freshman of the Year (TopDrawerSoccer, Soccer America).
