Nick Montgomery was keen to move on following a difficult 3-1 defeat for Hibernian to Rangers at Ibrox.
The Hibees competed throughout and looked dangerous in stages, grabbing an equalising goal in the first half through Myziane Maolida, but the home side scored through three quality finishes to take all the points on Easter Saturday.
Speaking following the match, Hibs Head Coach Montgomery reflected on a tough afternoon for his side, but also some positives from the Hibees’ performance.
“I’m disappointed in the result but I don’t think we deserved anything out of the game,” he said.
We’ve been on a good run with good momentum, but now we have to get going again for a big game against St Johnstone. -
“We had some good moments, we got back into the game at 1-1 and needed to see it out until half-time and not concede.
“So, I’m really disappointed to concede that second goal. We fought back into the game and were causing them problems on the counter attack and in transition, but we were marking on the wrong side at a cross [for Rangers’ second goal].
“You can't do that and we were punished. That swung the momentum for them.
“In the second half, at 2-1, we still had a chance to get back into the game.
“We had to make changes, a few of them enforced, and the third goal made it an uphill task. It was a quality finish from outside the box.”
Hibs were six league games unbeaten arriving at Ibrox. The 3-1 defeat was the Hibees’ first in the cinch Premiership since 7 February, 2024.
Montgomery pinpointed defensive errors that contributed to the loss at Ibrox, before looking ahead to an important home game for his side next weekend.
“You have to mark goal side in the box, you have to block shots on the edge of the box and you have to stop crosses, if we did that better today, maybe we could have got something.
“We were good in patches, but not good enough overall. We dust ourselves down now and move on.”
