COLUMBUS (WCMH) – The ebb and flow of gas prices continue as the cost of a gallon of gas dropped by a dime last week.
After a bump of 16 cents the previous week, the cost for a gallon of gas dropped by 10 cents to $3.35 per gallon, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 500 stations. The current price is 11 cents per gallon higher than one month ago and 10.6 cents lower than this time one year ago.
The cheapest gas station in the Columbus area was priced at $3.02 a gallon, while the most expensive was $3.59, a difference of 57 cents per gallon. In Ohio, the average price of gas also dropped by nearly a dime (9.7 cents) from one week ago, averaging out at $3.31, while nationally, gas prices remain unchanged at $3.51 per gallon.
According to Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, the rise in cost isn’t unexpected for this time of year, and there may be one or two more jolts before summer.
"For now, motorists have a bit of a reprieve from the constant big weekly price jumps,” De Haan said. “While we seem to be nearing a short-term peak, one word of caution for those in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast: you haven't yet finished the transition to summer gasoline, so you may experience some sticker shock in a few weeks.”
