Meet the twin sisters, 24, set to compete AGAINST each other at iconic Cambridge vs Oxford Boat Race
THE iconic Cambridge vs Oxford Boat Race is about to get more exciting with twin sisters set to compete AGAINST each other.
Catherine and Gemma King, 24, have been rowing together since the age of 12.
They were both previously studying at Cambridge since 2018, with the duo competing in the same boat in the women’s Gemini Boat Race.
But the sisters have now moved on to their PhDs.
And Catherine made the controversial switch from Cambridge to Oxford for her course in cardiovascular science.
She has since made the grade for Oxford’s rowing team, while Gemma has kept her place with Cambridge.
It means they will go head-to-head for the first time on Saturday in the 78th women’s Gemini Boat Race.
And there will be no love lost between the siblings, with each sister gunning for glory.
Cambridge star Gemma said: “We are both very competitive and we obviously want to win.
“But at the end of the day the Boat Race is so much more than who wins or who loses.

“No matter what happens, I’m going to be really proud to be racing for Cambridge and proud of Catherine for racing for Oxford — but obviously we’d like to win.
“The Boat Race is an amazing experience to be a part of and I’m looking forward to seeing what we can do on race day.
“We’re always very honest with each other and we’ll tell each other what we’re doing wrong.
“We’ve always managed to achieve things that people didn’t expect in boats together.”
Oxford ace Catherine continued: “We got into the sport together and I think because we’re both competitive as individuals, as well as with each other, we pushed each other on to become better athletes.”
As for who their parents are backing, Catherine added: “They’ve actually joked about getting half-and-half hats but I think at this point it might be more than a joke.
“They’ll definitely be supporting us both and they come and watch every race.”
