Jim Jordan subpoena signals Biden impeachment could 'drag on for years': expert
While the latest impeachment hearing in the House Oversight and Reform Committee didn't go as well as they'd hoped, according to one analyst, the Republicans haven't given up hope they can impeach President Joe Biden.
Politico reported Thursday that the House Judiciary Committee, led by Ohio Republican Jim Jordan, is now suing the Justice Department, demanding that two staffers testify as to what was uncovered in the criminal tax investigation of the younger Biden.
Jordan's committee filed the suit in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia to compel a closed-door meeting with Justice Department employees, Mark Daly and Jack Morgan. The men were subpoenaed last year when Republicans began what Politico referred to as their "years-long" investigation into the Bidens.
Legal affairs reporter Josh Gerstein noted that court battles like these can "drag on for years." He recalled one example in which it took seven years to move the trial forward and get the witness to testify.

The 59-page suit alleges that their failure to comply "is impeding the Committee’s impeachment inquiry and its oversight of DOJ’s handling of the Hunter Biden investigation, matters of significant public concern."
Hunter Biden is accused of not paying his taxes during a period when he was battling drug addiction. He has since paid the taxes and penalties.
The Justice Department typically refrains from going public about investigation of criminal cases and how it intends to prosecute them.
National security expert Marcy Wheeler mocked the Republican efforts at impeachment, commenting that what its turned up has only hurt the GOP.
"Their other witnesses have revealed 1) Everyone was getting threats, 2) Most of what the disgruntled IRS claimed was bulls--t, 3) The Brady side channel was by far the most corrupt thing the impeachment effort has discovered about Barr and Trump, [and] 4) [Tony] Bobulinski went on the record with claims that could get him in trouble with the FBI. That's how great this impeachment is."
She remarked that DOJ testimony to the Judiciary committee could actually help Hunter Biden at this rate.
