I transformed my grotty fence for just £60 – it was the perfect DIY to give the garden a lift and saved us £1.4k
A CASH-SAVVY mum has revealed how she gave her garden a major glow-up on the cheap.
Renovating your home – or garden – can be a shock to the wallet, especially if it’s done by professionals.
According to the savvy mum, the total costs came to £60, saving the family over £1k[/caption] Bethanne used roof batten they’d bought from Travis Perkins[/caption]But one money-smart mum, Bethanne Turbutt-Rogers, recently took to TikTok to prove that it doesn’t always have to be the case – and you can achieve jaw-dropping results for a fraction of the price.
In the video, Bethanne – better known to her 160k fans as @budgetingmumofficial – shared how she and her hubby constructed a slatted fence with barely any skills.
”When I say that me and my husband both suck at DIY I am not joking.
”So if we can do this, then you definitely can,” she chuckled.
The first step of the makeover – which was supervised by her dad – involved attaching long pieces of wood to the wall by the property.
The duo then used a ”cheap” pack of roof batten they’d nabbed from Travis Perkins – as the material is already pre-treated, it can go straight onto the DIY fence.
”We used a little wooden block to make sure that we got the same distance between all of the battens, and then we just used the nail gun to secure it into place.”
According to Bethanne, who regularly shares tips and tricks to help families slash the costs, this process was ”so easy”.
”I got bored after two, so i handed it over back to my husband to finish it off.”
In total, the project took just a couple of hours to finish and the costs came to £60 – which saved the duo an estimated £1.4k if they had done professionally by experts, according to Checkatrade.
Bethanne wrote in the caption: ”When we first moved into this house, the first thing you saw when you went into the garden was this awful concrete wall so it was one of the first projects we did!
”Having the fences replaced right now is just not an option with all the other jobs going on so this was the perfect DIY fix to give the garden a lift.
”These roof battens can be picked up from either Travis Perkins or B&Q or if you have a local hardware shop you could try there too!
”They are pre treated so no need to treat and they’ve lasted really well through the winter months too.”
Dozens of fellow social media users flocked to comments, where they praised the couple and shared their thoughts.
One said: ”Looks good but I would have painted the back wall black or put some screen, only cheap, just makes it looked a little bit prettier.”
Another chimed in: ”So great to see an actual ‘budget’ transformation!
”Usually they are still hundreds! This is amazing, well done.”
”This looks great!” someone else was amazed by the makeover.
”I got bored after two, I felt that,” a fourth chuckled.
According to Checkatrade, this would’ve cost them more than £1k to get it done by professionals[/caption]
