Donald Trump on Saturday launched an attack on Nikki Haley's husband, criticizing him for not standing by Haley's side as she campaigns, but a CNN host and reporter were quick to point out the multiple reasons the attack is hypocritical.
Trump at his South Carolina rally said, "Where's her husband? He's away. He's away. What happened to her husband? What happened to her husband? Where is he? He's gone."
Jim Acosta of CNN Newsroom reported that the former president is "hoping to deal a final blow to Republican rival Nikki Haley in her home state."

"Rather than highlighting policy differences with the former South Carolina governor, Trump is mocking her husband for being absent on the campaign trail while he is currently deployed overseas," Acosta reported. "Of course we should note Haley's husband is deployed overseas."
Acosta then kicked it to reporter Alayna Treene, who pointed out another layer to the hypocrisy of Trump's attack on Haley.
"It is very clear that this race between him and Nikki Haley and this primary has got an increasingly nasty. You played a clip of him criticizing Nikki Haley's husband," Treene reported Saturday. "He's not been on the trail because he's deployed overseas. But also the former first lady Melania Trump has not appeared with Donald Trump once on the trail apart from his announcement back in 2020 when he'd be running for the white house in 2024."
