Property website Rightmove says homes listed at this time of year are snapped up the quickest.
But even if you’re not upping sticks, here are some ways to smarten up the front of your pad to boost its kerb appeal.
CLEAN AND CLEAR: It’s amazing the difference a good clear-up can make.
Collect litter that’s blown in, along with piles of leaves and any weeds that are creeping through the soil or paving.
Sweep cobwebs away from porches or windows, and give paintwork a wash down.
LOOKING TRIM: If you have grass in your front garden, cutting it will instantly lift the look of your house.
Regular mowing and trimming will keep it smarter.
And if there is a grass verge outside your boundary, give that the once-over too.
Take your trimmers to any straggly hedges at the same time.
GO POTTY: Once you’ve cleaned and tidied, you can add some smart touches.
Matching pots filled with fresh compost and some pretty flowering plants are the perfect pick-me-up.
At this time of year, Christmas Roses look great and flower through to March.
As the weather gets warmer, you could plant pretty annuals, such as gerberas, ornamental grasses or potted lavender.
DOOR APPEAL: A newly-painted door can make your home look instantly better, but choose your colour wisely.
Pink has been fashionable but, if you’re thinking of selling, don’t get sucked in by trends.
Anything too quirky can be off-putting for buyers, so maybe stick with classic black, dark grey or a dark green.
WONDER WINDOWS: Worn windows and sills can make a house look scruffy, so sand down the frames and give them a lick of paint.
Once they’ve got a new lease of life, create a great impression by giving them a good clean.
