King Charles will never abdicate and there’s a historical reason why explains royal expert
KING Charles will “never abdicate” the throne and step aside for Prince William, according to royal author Robert Jobson.
On Monday, His Majesty, 75, made the shock announcement that he has been diagnosed with cancer after the disease was spotted during his prostate operation.

Charles has started treatment and was advised by doctors to cancel front line duties.
Robert, who penned Our King: The Man and the Monarch Revealed, told The Sun’s Royal Correspondent Matt Wilkinson: “We don’t know how the treatment is gonna go.
“One thing I would say, absolutely, I don’t think there will ever be an abdication.
“I know I’ve heard people talking about that, and pundits just, it’s a no, no, there’s no need to, we have a statute for a regency, so we don’t need anybody to abdicate.”
According to the Regency Acts 1937, a reigning monarch can hand over power if they feel they are unable to fully perform their duties.
The Act could allow King Charles to keep his royal title, but Prince William, 41, would step up to perform the majority of his duties.
However, the palace has revealed the King is set to return to face-to-face meetings in two-weeks time.
Rob added: “What we will not see him doing is the public face-to-face duties and where that’s the case we might see William step in, save for doing receiving the credentials of a new ambassador or something like that.
“I can see that happening.
“But as for the king giving up his position constitutionally, I just don’t think that’s ever gonna happen.
“The people around him are gonna have to have less expectations in terms of the way that his schedule was drawn.
“I think everyone does [have too high expectations].”
His Majesty carried out a staggering 516 engagements last year, including 94 trips abroad.
The late Queen never abdicated, and reigned for over 70 years until her death at the age of 96 in September 2022 at her beloved Balmoral Castle.
Following her death, King Charles ascended the throne, and his coronation took place in May last year.
How Charles bravely revealed diagnosis to help others
KING Charles has bravely broken with royal protocol by sharing his cancer diagnosis.
Senior royals have in past been tight-lipped about their health battles.
The last top royal diagnosed with cancer was Charles’s grandfather George VI.
Heavy smoker George had his left lung removed for “structural abnormalities” in September 1951, months before he died.
The “abnormalities” were actually a life-threatening carcinoma, but the public never learned about George’s cancer ordeal.
Buckingham Palace said Charles wanted to share his cancer diagnosis to boost “public understanding” for cancer patients worldwide.
Charles, 75, and Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, 43, spoke on the telephone on Wednesday as the King rested at Sandringham.
This followed Prince Harry’s whistlestop 26-hour London visit, as he rushed to be by his father’s side following the cancer diagnosis being revealed.
On Thursday, Queen Camilla said King Charles “is doing extremely well, under the circumstances”’ as she arrived at a special ceremony.

The Queen, 76, appeared in good spirits at Salisbury Cathedral and she continued to put on a brave face amid her husband’s cancer treatment.
In his first comments since King Charles’s cancer diagnosis and Kate’s abdominal op, Wills told well-wishers in London on Wednesday: “We really appreciate everyone’s kind messages. Thank you.”
The Prince of Wales, 41, returned to frontline royal duties three weeks after wife Kate, 42, underwent abdominal surgery.
