MONROE, La. (KTVE/KARD) -- A Monroe drive-by shooting suspect, 16-year-old Kentrell D. Burton, has been officially charged as an adult for the homicide of 19-year-old Tiana Newton. According to court documents, the shooting took place on October 3, 2023, on South 2nd Street and Texas Avenue in Monroe, La.

Burton was arrested on October 24, 2023, by Monroe Police and charged with Second-Degree Murder, Illegal Use of a Dangerous Weapon, and Illegal Possession of a Firearm by a Juvenile. He was then transported to the Green Oaks Detention Center.
According to court documents, the Office of the District Attorney sought an indictment against Burton, seeking to charge him as an adult for Second-Degree Murder. A Grand Jury met on January 25, 2024, and the jurors returned a true bill for Second-Degree Murder. Documents confirmed that the Bill of Indictment was filed on January 26, 2024.
