ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The restaurant industry is ever-changing with restaurants opening, closing, relocating, or just doing their thing. Here’s a recap of the latest Capital Region restaurant news, January 28 through February 9.
Schenectady Soup Stroll winners announced
The eighth annual Schenectady Soup Stroll was held on January 27. Attendees were able to warm up from the winter chill by sampling a wide array of soups from 32 local eateries.
Niskayuna’s The Broken Inn gets NYS Senate Empire Award
The Broken Inn, located at 2209 Nott Street in Niskayuna, was awarded the New York State Senate Empire Award by Senator Jim Tedisco. The Empire Award is the Senate’s highest award for small businesses.
Upcoming Albany eatery/music venue changes name, menu
What was initially supposed to be a second location of Nanola in Malta will now be taking on its own identity. Nanola South has been renamed Ophelia’s on Broadway, and will be located in the former Parish Public House at 388 Broadway in Albany.
2 Capital Region restaurants added to NYS Historic Business Preservation Registry
Two more restaurants in the Capital Region are now on the New York State Historic Business Preservation Registry. Gus’s Hot Dogs in Watervliet and Verdile’s Restaurant in Troy were recently added.
Tickets on sale for Troy’s Hot Chocolate Stroll
The 2nd annual Hot Chocolate Stroll is returning to Troy on Friday, February 23 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Although you don’t necessarily need a ticket, tickets are now available online.
Lineup set for Downtown Pittsfield Restaurant Week
Downtown Pittsfield Restaurant Week is returning from February 16 to 25. The week is held in conjunction with Pittsfield’s 13th Annual 10×10 Upstreet Arts Festival.
Cappie’s Drive-In in Amsterdam sold to new owners
Cappie’s Drive-In, located at 264 Route 67 in Amsterdam, has been sold. According to Roohan Realty, the property was sold to a Manhattan-based partnership on January 30. Peter Michailidis, who represents the new owners said the business will continue to operate as Cappie’s. The new owners are planning to open in the spring.
Italian restaurant moving from Albany to Guilderland
Caffe Italia Ristorante, a staple at 662 Central Avenue in Albany, is in the process of making its move to Guilderland. The restaurant is taking over the former Tesoro Italian Restaurant at 2080 Western Avenue in Guilderland’s Hamilton Square.
Ballston Spa Chocolate Fest winners announced
The winners have been announced for Ballston Spa’s ninth annual Chocolate Fest. The event was held on February 2 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Chicken wing chain opening new location in Albany
Wingstop is set to open a new location in the Capital Region. The eatery will be located in Albany’s Westgate Plaza at 911 Central Avenue.
Chatham cafe closing its doors after 7 years
Main St. Goodness, located at 20 Main Street in Chatham, is closing after seven years. Owner Christopher Knable told NEWS10 that the cafe’s last day is on Sunday, February 11.
Korner Bar & Grille set to open in Colonie
Korner Bar & Grille, the newest eatery from Innovo Kitchen owner and chef John LaPosta, will soon be opening in Colonie’s Village Square Plaza. LaPosta told NEWS10 he hopes to open late next week (the week of February 12).
Restaurant lineup for the 25th annual Saratoga Chowderfest
Get your spoons ready as Saratoga Chowderfest is returning soon to celebrate its 25th anniversary. The event is returning to Saratoga County on Saturday, February 10 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Palazzo Ristorante opening in Rotterdam
Joe Citone has been planning The Palazzo Ristorante in Rotterdam since 2019. Now, he’s finally getting ready to open. The Palazzo Ristorante will be located at the former Joe’s Pizza Place at 2780 Hamburg Street.
Schoharie County brewery up for sale
Green Wolf Brewing Co. & Public House in Middleburgh has been put up for sale. Owner Justin Behan said he is leaving the business and hopes to find a new owner so the brewery can continue on.

The Jericho Drive-In and Twist Ice Cream in Glenmont is celebrating its opening day on Friday, February 9. The ice cream shop will be open daily from 1 to 8 p.m.
Herbie’s Burgers opens in the Empire State Plaza
Herbie’s Burgers has opened its sixth location in the former McDonald’s space in the Empire State Plaza. The burger joint is located in the center concourse near the food court.
