High school sports roundup (Feb. 9)

Here’s a roundup of high school varsity action on Friday, Feb. 9.

Girls basketball

Pikesville 53, Hereford 42: Trailing by a point after one quarter, the Panthers took control with a 15-3 second-quarter run. Bree Taylor led the win with 12 points. TyKeisha Hill and Maya Chase each added 10 points. For Hereford, Gabby Nieberlein and Lauren Kraft each scored 11.

Broadneck 51, Southern 28: Samantha Miller paced the Bruins with 16 points. Mackenzie Wharton chipped in 13 points and six rebounds. London Best finished with 12 points, seven rebounds and five steals. Ava Wooster led Southern with 12 points.

South River 60, Chesapeake-AA 47: Skylar Woodyard led the Seahawks with 14 points in the victory. Karlee Hawkins was right behind her with 13 points. Hawkins also added five rebounds, five assists and five blocks. Cami Burke handed out 10 assists to go with her eight points and four steals. Maggie Lawrence led the Cougars with 20 points and 12 rebounds.

Annapolis 60, Arundel 23: The host Panthers broke an 11-11 tie with an 18-6 run in the first half and beat the Wildcats. Amelia and Audrey Skinner combined efforts to score 26 points for Annapolis. McKenzie Fuller had 13 points for Arundel.

Mount de Sales 36, John Carroll 24: Shelby Lewis had 13 points and 10 rebounds and Mackenzie Conley had nine points to lead the Sailors (19-4, 8-2 Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland B Conference) over the Patriots (12-7, 7-3). The win secured the second seed in the league playoffs.

Westminster 50, Winters Mill 43: Maddy Gassman scored 16 points and Jules Lesher had 14 points to lead the host Owls over the Falcons. Arecely Adames and Kaelyn Battle each scored nine points for Westminster. Hannah Neske had 15 points for Winters Mill.

Manchester Valley 43, Harford Tech 28: Reese Kresslein and Autumn Stottlemire each scored 12 points to lead the Mavericks to the win. Kresslein added 12 rebounds to complete the double-double. Stottlemire added six rebounds and three steals. Molly Smith totaled eight points, six rebounds, six steals and four assists.

South Carroll 49, Francis Scott Key 44: The Cavaliers picked up a huge win over the Eagles behind 16 points from Harley McKee. Leah Miller had 13 points and nine rebounds, while Jenna Todd added six rebounds and seven blocks to the effort.

Hammond 47, Long Reach 10: The Golden Bears (17-0, 12-0 Howard County) extended their undefeated season. Sara Yarnell had 12 points and eight rebounds, while Asia Mitchell also scored 12 points. Nia Green added 10 points and eight assists.

Atholton 40, Centennial 38: Kendi Caldwell scored 16 points to lead Atholton (8-8, 6-8 Howard County) in the win. For Centennial (10-8, 7-7) Adria Welsh had 17 points.

Havre De Grace 47, C. Milton Wright 41: Senior Azareya Whiting led the Warriors to victory by scoring 15 points, pulling down seven rebounds and collecting seven steals. Emma Jankowiac poured in 19 points for the host Mustangs.

Kenwood 43, North Harford 36: In the loss, Emily Signor had 17 points and 17 rebounds for the Hawks. Lauren Nicholson finished with 15 points and eight rebounds.

St. Mary’s 55, Mercy 47: Milan Brown scored a game-high 31 points, but the host Magic (12-11, 6-9 IAAM A Conference) fell to the Saints (19-8). Alexandre Vandiver led St. Mary’s with 25 points.

Gerstell 43, Concordia Prep 20: The Falcons (14-6) finished the regular season on a four-game winning streak and a perfect 10-0 IAAM B Conference record. Annie Jackson had 13 points, Mimi Delone had nine points and Eniyah Stinnette had eight points and 13 rebounds for Gerstell. The Falcons will host Maryvale Tuesday in the first round of league playoffs.

Indian Creek 53, Friends 18: Malinda Morgan scored 18 points to lead the host Eagles (17-6, 13-1 IAAM C Conference) over the Quakers (4-10, 4-12). Other top scorers for Indian Creek included: Stephanie Bunker (13 points) and Abbey Bunker (8).

Boys basketball

Atholton 64, Glenelg 39: Deion Dent led the Raiders (13-6, 9-5 Howard County) in the win with 18 points. Amir Shaheed added 12 points in the win. Atholton built a commanding 37-13 halftime lead. For Glenelg (5-13, 4-11), Michael Tolle had nine points.

South River 68, Chesapeake-AA 60: The host Seahawks beat the Cougars. South River was led by James Crimaudo (22 points), Liam Barney (13 points), Jamie Finn (11 points) and Jack Schrader (11 points).

Severna Park 51, Crofton 37: The host Falcons beat the Cardinals. Will Frost led Crofton with 14 points and Dylan Shafer and Kenny Logan each had six points.

Northeast 56, Meade 55: The host Eagles opened the second half with a 14-6 run to pull ahead of the Mustangs (14-5). Meade was led by Josh Holmes (16 points), Ashton Truman (12 points) and Lucaya Baldridge (12 points).

Broadneck 69, Southern 47: Brian Griffin scored a game-high 26 points, but the host Bulldogs fell to the Bruins. Broadneck was led by Joey Smargissi (16 points) and Jordan Brown (13 points).

Joppatowne 92, North Harford 42: Kishann Smith scored 19 points, Phil Clark and Kendall Pollock each scored 14 points to lead the host Mariners over the Hawks. Other top scorers include Dartanun Blakney and Calil Thorne had 10 points.

C. Milton Wright 77, Elkton 76: The Mustangs erased a 23-point fourth quarter deficit, winning on a go-ahead bucket from Dylan Sander in the final three seconds. Cayne Woodland led the way with 19 points on five 3-pointers.

Patterson Mill 55, Edgewood 42: Drew Page scored a game-high 24 points and James Hammond had 15 points to lead the host Huskies over the Rams. Patterson Mill outscored Edgewood, 40-19, in the second half.

Fallston 74, Rising Sun 57: The visiting Cougars overcame the Tigers’ zone defense with ball movement as 24 of 28 field goals came with assists. Paul Kvech and Oliver Rueckert combined for 28 points and 20 rebounds and Aiden Robinson had 17 points for Fallston.

Glenelg Country 65, Loyola Blakefield 61: The host Dragons (10-12) beat the Dons (16-11). Saturday, Glenelg Country hosts Gilman and Sunday Loyola hosts St. Maria Goretti.

Manchester Valley 65, Harford Tech 51: The Mavericks pulled away from Harford Tech in the third quarter. Brendan Luddy led Manchester Valley with 29 points and grabbed six rebounds. Owen Caine added 10 points for the Mavericks. Eric Macharia had 19 points and Mateo Hiett 15 for Harford Tech.

Winters Mill 54, Westminster 52: The Falcons kept their county championship hopes alive winning a thriller over the Owls. In a back-and-forth final quarter, Winters Mill went up five before holding off Westminster’s final charge. The Falcons were led by Owen Case with 18 points and Tommy Hinkhaus with 13. Micah Ozgar led the Owls with 14 points. Will Mollman posted a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds.

Chapelgate Christian 56, St. John’s Catholic Prep 51: The host Yellow Jackets (14-10, 6-7 Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association B Conference Red Division) came back from a 17-point first-half deficit to beat the Vikings (14-10, 8-5). The win was the third straight. Julan Sabbat had 22 points, Justin Bishop had 18 points and Bryson Milledge had 10 points for Chapelgate. Monday, the Yellow Jackets host Greater Grace.
