‘Smells fresh and kills more germs!’ Laundry whizz shares genius hack to get your clothes dry without spending a penny
IN the winter months, it can often feel like laundry is taking over our homes with airers scattered everywhere.
Rather than resorting to expensive tumble dryers or a dehumidifier, one cleaning expert claims that she dries her laundry for free – thanks to a simple hack.
Lynsey Crombie shared her top tips for drying washing on This Morning[/caption]If you’ve watched daytime TV, you’ll probably be familiar with Lynsey Crombie.
Dubbed TV’s Queen of Clean, the presenter regularly shares her hacks for getting your home spotless without spending a fortune.
Large laundry piles won’t get this domestic goddess down either, with her revealing how she gets through her family’s washing on This Morning.
Appearing with Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary, she told viewers that she prefers to air her laundry outside before taking it inside.
She said: “People are scared of drying outside this time of year…but, I got two loads dry yesterday.”
Though it might seems counter intuitive, the cleaning guru assured her fans that her washing is dry and talked them through her method.
“We get it out for 7am and bring it in at about 4pm,” she explained, adding: “It sort of feels a bit wet, but it’s not wet, it’s just cold.”
Rather than using an airer to finish her drying process, the TV personality will then leave her fresh washing in a laundry basket for ten minutes to ensure it’s completely dry.
Though you might question this, Lynsey then gave multiple reasons as to why she prefers this method.
During the TV segment, she argued that airing your laundry outside on bright days made it feel fresher and that it killed more germs.
It seems that science is on her side, with WebMD reporting that the sun’s ultraviolet rays can help kill any lingering bacteria on your laundry.
However, the cleaning expert had another reason for prefering the au natural method: the cost.
Like many of us, Lyndsey had been shocked by the cost of running a tumble dryer during the winter – which is roughly 40p-45p per hour.
As the cost of energy bills continue to rise, it no wonder that most Brits are only using these machines as a last resort.
For those still struggling to get to the bottom of their laundry pile, the cleaning expert did have another hack to help with those drying times: the double spin.
Instead of simply spinning her clothes once, Lyndsey will run an extra cycle and says it’s her ‘favourite’ laundry hack.
“A ten minute spin at the end [will] get more water out, especially if it’s jeans, bedding [or] heavy towels,” she revealed, adding: “Then it comes out a little bit drier for when it goes on the line.”
With washing machines costing just 25p per cycle, this thrifty hack will also save you money as it cuts down drying time if you do use a tumble dryer.
“I’ve been doing that for years and it makes a massive massive difference,” she gushed.
It seems this cleaning tip is well worth the effort.
