Meghan McCain blindsided by bizarre musical about her father: 'As surprised as everyone'
A new musical on the life of the late Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) has been announced — but according to his daughter, the McCain family had no knowledge of it and has not given it approval, The Messenger reported Tuesday.
"My family has not authorized it nor was aware of it. I was as surprised as everyone else to see the announcement," said Meghan McCain, according to the report.
In "The Ghost of John McCain," according to the report, "the musical portrays the late senator and Vietnam War veteran as he returns from the afterlife only to find himself stuck in former President Donald Trump's head ... the characters in the musical include John McCain, Donald Trump, Donald Trump's brain, Lindsey Graham, Hillary Clinton and other major American political figures."
The production was written by Scott Elmegreen and the music by Drew Fornarola.

McCain, whose career in politics spanned decades and who ran unsuccessfully for president in 2008, was famously at odds with Trump for the entirety of his campaign and time in office. Trump mocked his military service, saying war heroes didn't get captured, and McCain's dissenting vote killed Trump's legislation to repeal the Affordable Care Act.
Trump never forgave McCain for that vote, and continues to rage about it to this day.
Many of Trump's allies have similarly disparaged McCain, with Republican Kari Lake, who is seeking to run for the Senate in Arizona following her unsuccessful bid for governor, now trying to walk back her remarks during the 2022 election in which she called McCain a "loser."
