The sale of non-green firecrackers in violation of Supreme Court guidelines continued in parts of Guwahati during Diwali. The Pollution Control Board, Assam claimed a decrease in the sale of such firecrackers, but violations were observed in markets like Fancy Bazar and Ganeshguri. The board is monitoring the violations and the district administration is responsible for enforcement. Raids are being conducted, and action will be taken against violators. The Supreme Court had previously banned the sale of all fireworks except green crackers and those with reduced emissions. The National Green Tribunal also banned the sale and use of firecrackers in certain areas.
