The telly supremo, 64, lashed out over the ex-judge’s allegations in a High Court writ that he was secretly recorded on the show.
Insiders called the bombshell accusations, including claims he was recorded in the loo, “absurd, embarrassing and utterly bizarre”.
It also emerged last night Cowell is no longer an Instagram follower of the comic, who played a Little Britain character with the catchphrase “Computer says no”.
A source close to Cowell told The Sun: “Many of the allegations in this writ are just plain wrong.
“For example, the idea anyone surreptitiously recorded David is absurd.
“It was announced in 2018 judges’ comments between themselves at the judging desk would be recorded for possible use.
“Since then, they have been used regularly in audition episodes.”
However, BGT judges Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon were last night said to be “shocked” their conversations may have been “taped and kept for all this time”.
A source close to them added: “They’re close with David and have been supporting him.”
Walliams, axed last year for mocking two hopefuls in leaked recordings, says his private chats were transcribed and retained “without consent” over ten years.
But an insider said: “The recordings which leaked did not come from a backstage private moment, as is suggested.
“David was at the judges’ desk with around 2,000 in the audience.”
They added: “The judges weren’t on mic all day. They could either unplug them — which they did — or just take them off.”
The Sun can reveal Walliams, 52, who is seeking up to £10million damages from the show’s makers Fremantle, claims calls to loved ones were also transcribed, including chats with son Alfred, ten.
Moving details of Walliams’ mental health struggles were revealed in the High Court writ.
It revealed being cancelled from public life left him fighting “active suicidal thoughts” and left him “plagued by uncontrollable negative thoughts”.
His lawyers say that Walliams knew he was being recorded “on the panel”.
But they add: “Unknown to him at the time, his microphone was kept on and recording throughout the whole filming day, including breaks, during his whole tenure as a judge on the show.
