‘From what I understand’ – Fabrizio Romano shares the latest on Spurs and Julian Nagelsmann
Fabrizio Romano has shared his understanding of the current situation between Tottenham Hotspur and Julian Nagelsmann.
The Times claimed yesterday that the German was back in the frame for the vacant head coach position at Tottenham and is understood to have even given his recommendation of suitable sporting directors to Daniel Levy for him to work alongside.
It was said that the 35-year-old wanted assurances of who would be replacing Fabio Paratici before he made his own commitment to the north Londoners.
The Evening Standard had reported earlier this month that Tottenham had ended their interest in Nagelsmann, having originally sounded out his representatives about the job but have since decided to look elsewhere in their search for Antonio Conte’s replacement.
Romano has given his update on the Nagelsmann speculation by claiming there has not been any fresh contact between Tottenham and the former Bayern Munich boss and the situation has not changed.
Tottenham are looking to prioritise the recruitment of a new sporting director before securing the services of their next head coach.
He told his YouTube channel:“ From what I understand, there are no fresh conversations between Tottenham and Julian Nagelsmann. There is nothing concrete,”
“To tell you the truth, Nagelsmann was open to speaking to Tottenham about the job. It wasn’t until one week ago.
“But then what happened is he wanted DOF to be with him day to day to support his ideas. And this is why at the end, the talks were stopped. Tottenham decided to not proceed, and go with a different idea. To decide on a director, and then go for a coach.
“This is why the talks have not been advancing. What we can say today is the situation has not changed.”
