Monster mums refused to visit tragic daughter’s grave after attending funeral YARDS away
TWO monster mums jailed for starving their daughter to death snubbed a chance to visit their tot’s neglected grave – after attending a funeral just yards away.
Margaret Wade, 42, and Marie Sweeney, 41, attended a family service close to where tragic two-year-old Lauren Wade was buried in an overgrown plot.
Sweeney was even given compassionate release by prison bosses to be at Glasgow Crematorium for the funeral of Wade’s mother, Jeanie, who died aged 61 last month.
But the brutes failed to drive the two minutes to their own daughter’s resting place in Lambhill Cemetery afterwards.
Lauren was found in a hellhole flat in Sighthill, Glasgow, on March 20, 2015, clinging to life and covered in lice and fleas but died shortly after admission to hospital.
The pair had been accused of killing her but admitted the reduced charge of neglect in 2019 and got six years and four months behind bars.
Wade was released on parole last year but Sweeney is currently housed within the Bella Centre, a cushy open nick in Dundee.
A source said: “They are scum of the earth – they are the reason that Lauren is lying cold in that cemetery.
“Since she had her funeral, the grave has become overgrown and decrepit.
“They even drank away the fund that was meant to pay for a headstone.
“They didn’t care for her in life and, as this pathetic display shows, they don’t care about her now she’s dead either.”
Marie arrived early at the crematorium on Wednesday, which is housed within Lambhill Cemetery, and sat in the back of an unmarked prison service car puffing on a vape.
As several other cars arrived, she got out to speak to wellwishers but was not cuffed.
A hearse carrying Jeanie arrived around 9.40am with her family, including daughter Margaret, in the cortege behind.
Sweeney then walked with her guards up the hill and into the crematorium.
After the 30 minute service, the hearse left with Wade and other family members in it – while the white car carrying Sweeney followed behind.
An empty vase, tatty doll and cheap trinkets are all that mark her resting place.
Wade remains remorseless despite being freed early from her jail term.
When we tracked her down earlier this year to a grim high rise in Blairdardie, Glasgow, she told our man to “f*** off” when we asked if she regretted the shocking death of her daughter.
In 2019, Glasgow’s High Court heard “skinny and dirty” Lauren had gone without proper food or care in the filthy home for months.
Following a 999 call when she was found “unresponsive”, paramedics raced her to hospital but she died within minutes due to complications from malnutrition.
The pair also pled guilty to the wilful neglect of two other kids in the home.
Caging them, Lady Stacey told the pair: “You’d been offered advice, it was not taken. You failed in your duties to this child.”
Wade snubbed a fatal accident inquiry into Lauren’s death which concluded she could have been saved if seen by a GP while the mum was at her own appointment six weeks before the death.
