I’m a master gardener – three plants I would NEVER buy for my back yard & you shouldn’t either… they’re awful
A GARDENING pro has revealed the three plants he would NEVER plant – including one that might even be making your hay fever worse.
The Grumpy Gardener took to TikTok to encourage his green-fingered followers to avoid using privet hedging or chameleon plants in their backyards.
He suggested that while the first might be making your allergies worse, the second can spread an awful stench.
Sharing a 53-second reel on the @southern_living page, he said: “I would never buy these plants and neither should you!
“Number one is Privet. The botanical name is Ligustrum, but I think it should be called Disgustrum because these are awful plants.
“I don’t care what you say about them but you use them for hedging.
“They spread seedlings everywhere, they get out in the woods.
“They’re a terrible, obnoxious weed, and the flowers in the springtime give a lot of people allergies.”
Next up on the chopping block – the chameleon plant.
He continued: “People like the colourful foliage, but I consider it the worst weed in the country.
“It spreads by seeds and runners and if you cut a stem it releases a smell that makes you want to throw up.
“Last on Grumpy’s Hate List – Japanese barberry.
“people like the colourful foliage but the birds spread the berries everywhere.
“Seedlings come out everywhere and it’s a terrible weed.”
Fans loved his brutal honesty, with the video gaining more than 3,600 likes and 114,000 views.
In the comments, gardening fans shared their thoughts, with one writing: “I totally agree with you on chameleon plant. Trying to kill it now in my garden!”
“Privet is my arch enemy,” commented another.
A third added: “Good to know. Thank you for sharing.”
Others shared the plants they’re not fans of, with another adding: “This is how I feel about wisteria and mimosa trees…god they won’t stop.”
